Hello Mark,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Heriz Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1950 to 1970. The piece is traditionally decorated with a signature layout of the Heriz pieces. The piece is centrally decorated and the central medallion is strecthing through the central area both vertically and horizontally. This medallion and the surroundings are all decorated florally. The piece does not appear to be coloured with natural dyes. As usual to Heriz pieces, very bright tones were blend together with geometrically constructed floral motifs, in comparison to city rugs, Heriz pieces are less circular and less realistic in design. Heriz pieces are categorised as Villager Rugs and therefore the knot density is lower, the motifs are rendered less clearly. The central area was decorated on a brght red base while the borders were decorated on a dark blue base. Knotted by Asymmetrical Persian Knots. The piece is knotted wool on cotton. The piece appears to be in good condition without any visible significant problems.
Entirely hand knotted.
