This is a small, 'jewel-size', 8" x 10" vintage mid 20th century original painting by moderately listed artist Hubert Valerio (b. 1908) which depicts a European coastal scene that was executed in an expressionist manner. There is one auction sale record of a city scene of a slightly larger size that sold for $600 in 2012 against an $800 - $1200 estimate. For being the only auction sale recorded, it is an unusually high estimate and hammer price for a work by an artist with little biographical information. It is likely a family member of the artist or a collector with personal interest in selling works by Valerio may have 'pumped', or artificially inflated the market with this auction sale.
