Hello Chris,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Contemporary Turkish Ushak Carpet, dating back to the period between 1950-1970. The patterns on your piece were probably adapted from Traditional Turkish Ushak rugs which were very famous in Europe starting from the 15th century and in all Western markets from the 18th and 19th century. The piece adapts an entirely floral pattern with large motifs. Although these pieces are usually knotted without a center, we can detect a center on your piece. It is not a very definitive center but still can be considered as a central medallion. Large borders are also another known aspect of the Ushak Rugs and also used in this composition. The base colour od the central area is dark blue while the beige was used for the base of borders. The knot quality is average for the period and motifs are rendered clearly without any muddy appeareance. This floral patern susually imitated the "gardens of heaven". The piece's foundation is made of wool as well as the pile, wool on wool. The piece is in good condition with same loss to the fringes and signes of use.
Entirely hand knotted.
Dimensions: 11 Feet by 15 Feet
Condition: The piece is in good condition with same loss to the fringes and signes of use.
Provenance: Given to the current owner as a gift.
Heavily decorated by traditional Contemporary Ushak patterns.
1500-2000$.
