This is an original oil painting of a half-portrait of a male that is potentially identified, though it is not confirmed. The painting itself could have been executed in 1600's, 1700's or even 1800's. It is in the Dutch manner. A previous appraisal states this is in the manner of Michiel Jansz. van Mierevelt (1566 - 1641); however Mierevelt painted in a different style and his works featured highly detailed, lace neck wear. The sitter in this portrait is wearing a simplified neck piece and is without a hat; the majority of portrait paintings, especially of Dutch clergymen would depict the male sitter wearing a hat. In order to be more definitive, a view of the entire backside to study the framing method would be necessary. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
