6 shot revolver which I believe is a 1851 Colt Navy model. Manufacturer is Metropolitan Arms co New York serial number 6280. Etching is not very visible on cylinder. Unsure if any components are replacements. There seems to be some issue with the trigger/hammer mechanisms which inconsistently allows the trigger to engage the hammer and lock into a firing position. Has not been fired in at least 60 years. There are noticeable gouges on the cylinder and a missing screw, otherwise I would assume it has normal wear and tear from age. Is in a left handed holster, unsure if that is original to gun.
Approximately 13in long x 5in high x 1.75in wide.
Inherited after fathers death, in my possession since 2011. Was in my fathers possession since the 1960's. Unsure of any history on the item as my father knew nothing about it. I believe it was given to him by his father.
Dear Charles,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a Metropolitan Model 1851 Navy revolver. It has a .36 caliber with no engraving on the cylinder, octagonal barrel and the serial number 6280. The Colt factory burnt to the ground in 1864 and the Metropolitan Co. of New York City seized the opportunity to made a nearly exact replica of the Colt 1851 Navy between 1864 to 1866.
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and no severe damage is visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 1.000 to 2.000 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Gregory
