We bought this table from an Antique dealer 20 years ago.
A victorian extending dining table , approximately 1860-1890, in apparently excellent condition. Surprisingly these large tables are not very much in demand when offered at auction. Comparable victorian mahogany extending dining tables on carved and turned supports with brass cup casters, plus four extra leaves, can be bought for less than 1000 USD if spotted at the right auction. On rare ocassions such a table sells for more than 5000 USD. A set of twelve balloon back chairs of the 1860s is a rare find, but in most cases these chairs are considered to be too small for the people of today. The admittedly wide ranging estimate is based on auction results, not dealer asking prices. A furniture dealer often has to wait many years until he gets a return on his investment.
