What does this mean?

Hi Emily,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The market for vintage and antique sewing machines is quite soft at the moment, even for ones in such good condition as yours appears to be.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

An antique Singer treadle sewing machine and oak table
model 115, 1909, serial number C5814060
The sewing machine with stenciled foliate decoration and foot treadle, the table fitted with hinged top, single long drawer flanked by three stacks of bowfront short drawers.
29 inches high 35 inches wide, depth 17 inches
CONDITION: appears to be in very good condition
PROVENANCE: acquired at a vintage market
$200-300*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.

Hello,

Length 35", Width ~17", Height ~29". Are there any other measurements that would be useful?
Also, I was wondering if retouching any of the wood or the paint on the machine itself would damage the value or help it.

Thanks

Updated with the dimensions, thanks.
We generally advise AGAINST doing restorations if you are considering selling this for a few reasons: original condition is almost always preferable, recent restorations can be a red-flag to potential buyers who may wonder what the restorations might be obscuring and don't go to the trouble and expense of a repair that may not - in the long run - proportionally increase the value of an item. Let the new owner decide if they want to pay for restorations.
Does that help? Let me know if you have additional questions.

Sounds great, thank you!

It appears to be just missing a belt, how does that affect the value and if I get a belt for it how does that affect the value?

Delia Apr 30, 18:14 UTC

These old sewing machines are often missing some parts and my value assumed it wasn't fully intact but knowing it's lacking a belt, I would say the revised value would be $150-250. Up to you as to whether or not you replace the belt, just let me know if you want me to lower the value or if you'll replace the belt in which case I should add that to the condition.
