1930's Walnut Dresser French Style with Floral Inlay
27 January 2024
Description

I have looked for markings as to who made the dresser and cannot find any. I have a complete set -dresser, tall boy dresser, desk with chair, bench, 2 twin beds and nightstand. The 3 drawer walnut dresser has a floral inlay on the bottom 2 drawers and a decorative inlay on the top drawer. It has the metal on the feet as well. The top of dresser has always has a glass top over it. The dresser is in excellent condition. I would love to sell all 7 pieces.

What does this mean?

Hi Kate,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Bedroom sets are, I'm sorry to say, household furnishings that have gone out of style; people rarely decorate so formally and there are numerous similarly large sets - many as lovely if not more so than yours - that have sold at auction recently for less than $3,000...sometimes even less than $1500 those are the outliers.

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A late vintage/near antique Empire style veneered and inlaid walnut 8-piece bedroom set
In the French style, circa 1930s,
With floral and seaweed marquetry and parquetry, reeded chamfered sides and cabriole legs, comprising:
Dresser (37 inches high, 46 inches wide, 19 inches deep)
Tall chest of drawers (height 52 inches, width 34 inches, depth 19 inches)
Kneehole desk (30 inches high, 46 inches wide, 19 inches deep)
Chair with damask upholstery (no dimensions provided)
Bench with damask upholstery (no dimensions provided)
Pair of twin beds (height of headboard 45 inches)
Nightstand (28 inches high, 16 inches wide, 15 inches deep)
CONDITION: This set appears to be in very good condition with minor wear commensurate to age and use.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$ 2,000-3,000 for the set*

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
