8. 1936 Dept. of the Interior Public Services Govt. MAP of USA, Territories and Insular Possessions. This large map belonged to my wife’s grandfather, Chester Paul Morrision, Lt. Colonel in the US Army. This map was hung in his military office in the 1960’s. Paper on canvas. Condition: Fair. Some deterioration of the paper veneer on the canvas backing. One tear at the lower right weighted wood rod as photos show. Measures: 88”x63”
My wife inherited this map from her grandfather's estate.
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a Map of the United States - including territories and insular possessions, Showing the extent of public surveys: National Parks and Monuments, Including military, Bird & Game preserves, National Forests, Railroads, Canals and other details, dated 1936.
Published by U.S. Department of the Interior, Harold L. Ickes, Secretary, General Land Office. Fred W. Johnson Commissioner. The map was laid down on canvas which is rather common. Unfortunately the condition is beyond repair. A similar map in much better conditions sold for approximately 100 US $ not long ago. I assume the sentimental value this map represents to you is much higher.
