Hi Marilyn,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Caiman is not a specific handbag brand; rather, it refers to a type of crocodilian whose leather is commonly used in crafting luxury handbags. Many designers and brands utilize caiman leather to create high-end accessories. This appears to be in very good condition but not having a maker's name attributed to it will keep its value down - related bags by named designers usually sell at auction for between $200-400 while unattributed bags bring $100-150.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage French caiman handbag
circa late 1940s
Of rectangular section and tapered triangular form, with two loop handles and gold-tone closure. With suede lining, marked.
Height: bag only 5-3/4 inches, with handle 12 inches
Length: 9-11/16 inches
Depth: 3-1/8 inches
CONDITION: This bag appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$100-150*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
