I’m looking for some advice regarding an old 8mm film reel I’ve had in my family for many many years. It was given to my parents by a friend who worked as an animator at Disney back in the 40's. The reel contains a series of rough pencil animation tests from different scenes of Dumbo, essentially early animation sequences that were likely used by the animators to review motion and timing during production. Back in the early 2000s, I reached out to the Disney archives to ask about it. After describing the reel, they told me it was likely a one-of-a-kind piece and described it as “priceless.” I’ve carefully held onto it ever since, but I’m now concerned about potential deterioration due to age. I’d really like to preserve it or sell it to someone who can properly take care of it before any damage occurs.
