They stand 9" tall and 3" round and on one side is a profile of a woman with sharp features on the other side is a poppy plant it's the opposite of engraved. The drawing comes outward the material that it's made out of is so heavy no one knows what it is it's very dark purpleish Gray and color and over a 100 years old there are absolutely no markings that can be seen it is hollow inside but all the way to the bottom
We found it in the basement of the house we moved into we moved into when I was a very young girl probably in the sixties
Hi Cyd,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Are these glass or porcelain / ceramic?
Thanks to confirm,
Delia
Dear Delia
Thank you so much with whatever you can do. I have been searching for these for 40 yrs. My mother used to be an antique dealer out of New York and she said before she died " Make sure you girls hang on to these after I die of course we weren't paying attention to what they were and they were and they are metal some kind of metal. I have taken them to so many different dealers in places and nobody knows what they are Thank you, cyd
P.S. They are so heavy that if you hit somebody over the head with it they would really hurt them for sure lolol.
Delia,
It said you left a comment but it's not there. I'm having trouble with communicating with that link. Is there another way? Anyway I didn't receive your comment and can't wait to hear it
Hi Cyd,
I cut and pasted the comment you made through our client services rep so that it stayed with the appraisal - that was the extent of the comment. I have to admit, I'm a little stumped by these. If you've shown them to a number of people (in person) and they don't have any ideas, I'm not sure how much help I'll be able to give on these. I'll ask another specialist at Mearto if they've seen anything like these. Apologies for the delay in getting back to you but we like to cover all of our bases.
Is it possible to see photos of the base? And an overall photo that isn't so dark?
Dear Delia.
I sure hope you get this email. I took pics from a different camera this time. You know, these vases are such a mystery. And to be honest with you they are not pretty at all-i guess thats what makes them so unique and beautiful at the same time. I told you my mom was an antique dealer in NY and she wouldn't have told us to hang on to them out of all her antiques. Anyway please let me know that you got these pics and I really appreciate whatever you can do.PS. isnt the woman really different looking with her sharp features (esp.her nose) and her hair looks like it has a headband.
Thanks!
Cyd, I'm pretty sure these are bronze, from the additional photos. doing a bit more research.
Do you mind leaving comments here rather than forwarding to our support department? I get them much faster this way. Thanks
Thanks for the additional photos, Cyd. It's difficult to read the inscription, which you said looked like it was in a different language. What does it look like to you?
or some sort of metal?
