What does this mean?

Good afternoon, Susan,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
These are covered noodle or ramen bowls; the lack of a mark makes them a little hard to date but based on the quality of the painting and condition of the "feet" these look early 20th Century to me. Probably 1925-1950.
Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A set of four vintage Imari parcel gilt porcelain covered noodle (udon) or ramen bowls
Probably Arita, Japan, second quarter 20th Century (1925-1950)
the larger (noodle) bowl with lobed medallions centering blossoms on a red ground with gilt foliate decoration and white interior with blue and white decoration, the smaller (cover) with corresponding exterior decoration and blue and white foot. Unmarked
Larger bowl 2 5/8-inches high by 4 3/4 inches diameter
PROVENANCE: purchased in Japan in the 1960s by client's parents, then inherited
$300-500*

Is the price per piece with lid or for the 4? Also, another appraisal for 2 bowls with lid were appraised at a much lower rate. Why the discrepancy?

Delia May 24, 18:09 UTC

Hi Susan,
I understood this to be four bowls with four lids. Is that not correct?
It occasionally happens that sometimes there is a small discrepancy between appraisers, though SK and I are generally pretty close in value.
These bowls were more valuable if they had their covers and should be sold together. I would not recommend, nor price, individually.

thank you. THe other 2 rice bowls had lids. I think the estimate is too low.
