A freshwater pearl bracelet made as a custom piece for the 2000 Paramount film, Gladiator. The jeweler says it was created from freshwater pearls that measure 5 MM. The bracelet was worn by the emperor's sister in the film or the emperor himself if that makes sense. The metal is not gold, rather gold wash. The film's director, Ridley Scott is said to have wanted authenticity in costumes and props, although the film took a lot of license. Everything in the film had a neo classical or Etruscan feel. Everything felt luxurious and looked imperial. The clasp is marked "Mendi," the broker between the jeweler and the studio. This six-strand bracelet cost $3,500 when it was ordered for the film. The jeweler is going to retire. He has a storied background that includes work at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. He still creates artifacts for films. And he is so knowledgeable and fun.
Measures 9 inches long and 2 and 1/8 inches wide.
