Hi Beth,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
German-born Charles Ahrenfeldt (1807–1894) began decorating porcelain in Paris in the 1840s, then moved to Limoges in the 1860s. Around 1884 he opened a decorating/manufacturing facility there. When he died in 1894, his son, Charles J. Ahrenfeldt continued the business and built another factory around 1896.
The mark on this - FRANCE DEPOSE C. AHRENFELDT LIMOGES” - dates to 1894–1930. It's not the name of pattern, just the maker; Ahrenfeldt produced brightly hand‑painted floral motifs, gilt rims, and occasionally special commissions for American retailers (e.g., Jaccard’s Kansas City, Higgins & Seiter New York). Many patterns were exclusive or unnamed, often difficult to match outside their original sets.
Limoges continues to appeal to collectors throughout the world and Ahrenfeldt Limoges services sell at auction for prices averaging $10-15 PER PIECE
