This oil on canvas painting has been in my family’s possession for over 70 years We know it was painted in Baden-Württemberg Germany around the time of her marriage (1830) to Anton Krembs. I have the will of her brother that refers to the painting in his possession in 1896. The painting was left to my great grand father and shipped to his home in Milwaukee WI. In the 1950’s it was given to my mother and came into my possession two years ago. Louisa is my great great grand mother. The painting recieved some restoration work in the San Francisco Bay Area in the mid 1960’s. At that time the original frame was replaced There is no marking from the artist. We know Louisa’s family was of noble roots. Her mother was Josephine von Pflumerin. The diamond studded cross in the picture is spoken of in family lore as the piece was broken up and the diamonds given to her daughters. We believe it was painted in Dischingen Germany As the family is associated with the royal family still living there. Louisa’ husband was a pharmacist and served the medical needs of the royal family before taking his family to the Inited States in 1856. I am donating the painting to the University of Wisconsin in 2026 and would like to have a value before that event
Frame is 28” wide by 32” tall
