This water pitcher has been handed down in my family. It was silver plated, but most of the plating has worn off. The story my grandmother and mother told me is that my great, great, great grandfather (Lt. Arthur Dickson Wharton) took this water pitcher from the Harriet Lane, a cutter used in the Civil War. Documentation from the war confirms that he was in Galveston at the time the Harriet Lane was captured by the confederates in 1863. The engraving is in cursive and says: U.S.C. H.L. C The bottom has a stamp that says "patent pending April 30, 1860"
11inches tall, 8 inches diameter at base, 5.5 inches diameter at top.
