Original swimsuit worn by movie star , Ester Williams , in the movie Million Dollar Mermaid. The costume was worn in the laser sequence ,when the glass tank , which she is swimming in ,shatters and breaks .

Description
The movie was made in 1953 by MGM studios so I presume the costume department made it . Originally the colour was Turquoise , There is a hint of blue in some of the ‘scales”. The material is ? Calico and artificial fish scales sown onto the material . The swimsuit was given to my mother in law , Carole, by Ester Williams herself and the studio of MGM. Carole won Miss Teen-Age in Victoria in ? 1952 and her prize was a trip to America and MGM studios. I have included a paper clipping of when Carole was wearing the swimsuit in 1953 to raise money for the Royal Women’s Hospital .
