Owned by collectors but I don’t know the origin. It was always used in a home, never exhibited.
Hello Jayme,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Tabriz Style Rug. The piece likely dates back to the period from 1960 to 1980. The piece is entirely florally decorated with pale, matte tones. The piece appears to be made outside of Iran in style of Persian Tabriz rugs. Many reproductions of originally Persian patterns were made in India and Pakistan, rarely Afghanistan as well. This piece appears to be a Indo-Tabriz production of the 1970’s. The piece is centrally decorated with a central medallion. Medallion is also florally decorated. The central area of the piece is knotted on an Ivory base while the borders of the piece is Ivory with red accents. The knot density of the piece is average, but lower in comparison to Persian pieces. Therefore the motifs are rendered somewhat muddy, this is also due to the different thickness of pile and the quality of the material used. The piece was knotted wool on cotton. The seni medallions on four corners of the central area are shaped as tulips. The piece is in good condition without significant problems, only small signes of use and age.
Entirely hand knotted.
