His career spanned over five decades—from the big band era in the 1940s to solo stardom through the 1990s, making him a fan favorite for several generations.
He won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in From Here to Eternity (1953) and earned 9 competitive Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
