A beautiful Torcheres Monumental Italian Alabaster 6 foot statue floor lamp with 3 twenty inch cherubs on the base , we were told by a sculptor that the cherubs faces were carved in the late 1800's and the wiring was probably added in the early 1900's when electricity evolved. This piece came from the Hoover mansion in N Canton wher dignatary's such as Presidents were often go. My family acquired it in the late 1970's. Measurements are H 72" W 24" on the top, 16" for cherubs and the base, the lamp is very beautiful piece of history.
This piece came out of the Hoover mansion, of the Hoover vacuum family in N. Canton Ohio. My family has owed it since the late 1970's .
This is a late 19th century hand carved alabaster sculptural lamp with three cherub or putti circling around a tall pole with matching carved shade atop that was likely sculpted in Italy. Alabaster is a relatively 'soft' stone and can easily be carved and sculpted. It is also a fragile stone, which damages easily, hence these do not come out to public sale often in this size and condition as less survive over time. The provenance, or history or prior ownership is good, though does not add to value yet does help 'sale-ability'. The estimate is based on actual past auction sales of comparables.
This lamp is beautiful and unfortunately I must sell . I live in Ohio and you must pay for the shipping and handling. It would need special handling because of the age . This piece of history is one of a kind and it actually works . If interested please call 1-330-338-1210
