What does this mean?

Hi Pauline,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The market for Australian aboriginal work is quite hot at the moment, but - because there are a lot of fakes on the market - gives preference to works that have provenance to known Indigenous schools of artists. If this is signed in any way (or if you can identify some of the history of the picture), it could dramatically improve the value of this otherwise fairly modest small work.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

Australian Aboriginal School, 20th Century
untitled picture of swimmer and manatee
oil on Masonite
15 by 25 cm (6 by 9 3/4 inches)
CONDITION: appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: unknown
$150-250*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
