The Afghan Flintlock Pistol Purchased in Kabul, Afghanistan/2009 During Operation Enduring Freedom 19th Century Middle-Eastern or flintlock pistol inlaid with metal & mother-of-pearl. Foliate designs to lock plate. Butt of gun features Dragon Head with Chain.

I am retired Air Force Veteran that served 24 year proudly. While stationed in Afghanistan in 2009, I was assigned to Forward Operating Base (FOB) Lightning in Gardez, Afghanistan. While there I was temporarily assigned to Camp Pheonix located in Kabul, Afghanistan to deliver Mental Health briefings to newcomers. During my tour at Camp Pheonix, I met a store owner that sold antique weapons to soldiers at the local Bazaar. It was there that I was able to purchase the Afghan Musket during the height of Operation Enduring Freedom. Considering the photographs, overall pattern, composition and the inlay, I concluded that this is a Hand Made Likely Pakistani, Afghan Made Khyber Pass Copy Contemporary Flintlock Pistol. These pieces were made by touristic sale purposes in Khyber Pass region of Pakistan. These copies were made to replicate the antique pieces starting from the 19th century. This dates back to the period from 1980 to 2009. We can observe that the quality of the craftsmanship pn the piece, inlay quality and the wood work is not compatible with antique pieces. The piece was inlayed by a ivory like material and florally, geometrically decorated. The piece is in good condition without visible problems.
