40 x 46 oil on canvas. Bear Face by Alvin Amason
Acquired from the Artist while he was on sabatical in his mative village of old harbor on kodiak island. We bartered airplane rides to and from the village for the painting
This is a fairly recent 21st century original, 2006, large sized, 40" x 46" oil on canvas painting by Sugpiaq Alaskan painter and sculptor, Alvin Eli Amason (b. 1948) featuring a close-up portrait of a head of a bear done in varying colorful palette strokes. The artist is of Alutiiq ancestry and his grandfather was a bear guide in Alaska. The artist obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University in 1976 and is the director of the Native Art Center of the University of Alaska. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
It is currently for sale. Asking $11,000. Had a native art dealer appraise it between 6 to 8 thousand dollars. Im not willing to let it go cheap. This was done while he was in his native village. He used the painting to pay for his flights to and from the village. Foot print on back of the canvas. I would like this to go to someone who would really appreciate it for more than just the painting itself.
