Large cherry corner cabinet purchased from antique dealer in 2001 for $6500.00. 60" width x 90" height, with side depths about 30". Picture available. Beautiful piece of furniture.
Purchased from an antigue dealer in South Carolina. Might can provide more information.
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
You have a lovely American cherry corner cupboard/cabinet. Since I am unable to see the interior, I cannot date it with complete confidence, but I feel strongly that it is indeed 19th century. The cabinet superstructure has a molded cornice, two long vertical glazed panel doors, over the base with two short drawers over two hinged vertical doors. I am unable to see the feet from the photo, but it appears to be integrated block feet.
Concerning the estimate, unfortunately, the market for big, brown pieces of furniture is soft and has been in decline for the past 10-15 years. A similar example to yours, sold at auction in 2017 for $500, against an $800-1,200 estimate. The same piece might have sold for $1,500+ 10 years earlier. Another, passed in 2017, which means it did not meet the reserve against a $600-900 estimate.
Unfortunately, retail prices are typically 4-5x higher than the fair market, auction value. I've provided an estimate that might be a bit high, but factoring in the assumption that the piece is in very good condition and hasn't been refurbished.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I'm happy to help.
Kind regards,
Corey
This is my first experience. I can't provide the information you are asking (wrapped in storage), but can I submit another piece instead. Are you licensed? I am interested in adding additional items if this is successful.
