Hi Bruce,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
While some beds like this are called "Eastlake" after designs by Charles Locke Eastlake, an English architect and writer who published Hints on Household Taste (1868), it more accurately represents the Renaissance Revival style, which was inspired by 16th-century Italian and French Renaissance art and architecture. it was part of the Mid-Victorian taste for opulence and represented wealth, culture, and historic grandeur, appealing to the upper middle class during the Industrial Revolution (Eastlake, on the other hand, advocated simpler styles that would evolve into Mission or Arts & Crafts styles).
Beds are extremely difficult furniture forms to sell - some dealers might even say "THE" most difficult furniture form to sell. Other Renaissance Revival beds that have sold at auction in recent months have all sold below $500, some significantly below that if they are not accompanied by a dresser or side table(s).
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique Renaissance Revival maple and oak double bed
American, possibly New York, late 19th Century
Approximately 60 inches tall, 54 inches wide, with headboard, footboard and side rails.
CONDITION: This appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: Inherited
