ANTIQUE OMANI / ARABIAN DALLAH LARGE HAND-WORKED COPPER & BRASS COFFEE POT
24 August 2026
Description

Large antique hand-worked Arabian coffee pot (dallah), believed to be of Omani origin. I am seeking an independent opinion regarding its age, regional attribution, materials, construction and current market value. The vessel appears to be constructed primarily from copper/copper alloy with brass-colored components and areas of what may be old tinning. Construction is visibly handmade, with multiple formed sections, seams, riveted/peened fasteners, brazed or soldered joints, a large strap handle, hinged lid and hand-fabricated hinge hardware. The lower body has a distinctive applied scalloped or crenellated decorative band. There is also incised geometric decoration around the upper portion of the vessel. A small openwork decorative element is attached to the horizontal brace extending between the neck and spout. The spout is particularly unusual. Rather than the broad scrolling or covered spout seen on many Omani/Nizwa dallahs, this example has a long, narrow tubular spout that rises almost vertically from the shoulder before bending outward near the top and terminating in a thicker open mouth. The piece has extensive surface wear, oxidation, patination and areas of verdigris. I have not polished or restored it. The underside of the hinged lid, seams, rivets, handle attachments and other construction details remain visible. I have seen similarities to antique Omani and Nizwa coffee pots, particularly in the body form and hand construction, but I do not have provenance confirming Nizwa manufacture or a specific date. I would particularly appreciate your opinion on: 1. Country/region of origin, including whether Oman/Nizwa is likely 2. Approximate date or period 3. Materials and fabrication method 4. Whether the unusual tall tubular spout helps identify a particular regional type 5. Whether the existing patina and surface should be left completely untouched 6. Current fair-market/auction value

Dimensions

The pot measures approximately 15 inches tall from the base to the top of the lid/finial, with a 6.5-inch-wide base. The spout rises approximately 13 inches from the base. Total weight is 3 lb 11 oz.
