This is an antique blown glass water fountain for Marano Italy. This came over to the United States in 1951.
4 1/2 feet tall by 3 feet wide
Hi Jason,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
There were a few studios in Murano who made such ornate birdbaths and fountains, including Barovier & Toso, Seguso Vetri d'Arte and Archimede Seguso and there is some variation among these as to value.
This would almost certainly have been signed by the maker - do you see any signatures that would narrow down the maker?
Many thanks in advance,
Delia
Hi Jason,
This mid 20th Century Murano glass fountain was one of several made primarily 1950s–1960s for luxury interiors and international exhibitions rather than mass export.
I've found ones by Gino Cenedese retailing for mid five figures, with ones attributed to Seguso selling at auction for low four figures.
I don't know if you saw my earlier query asking if this was signed by the maker. Rather than hold this appraisal up, I've gone ahead and evaluated it broadly; if this is signed by the maker, I will be able to narrow the value significantly.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage Murano Italian art glass figural fountain or birdbath
unattributed maker, mid 20th Century
With heavy ribbed "costolato" clear glass pedestal, emerald-green bowl and twisted central column, clear glass applied birds and gold-toned aventurine inclusions.
4-1/2 feet tall (54 inches) overall height
CONDITION: This appears to be in good condition; value assumes no breaks, repairs or losses.
