Antique Chinese Embroidered Silk Tapestry
This Antique Chinese Embroidered Silk Tapestry was obtained by my Grandmother in Shanghai, China in about 1920. It is vertical with three panels and three hanging tabs at the top. Fully lined. Tapestry is 17 inches wide by 48 1/2 inches long.
Nothing in writing - it was handed down to me from my father who inherited it from his mother. My sister could verify if needed.

Your Tapestry is indeed Chinese and made in the 19th century. Originally the panels come from Chinese silk Robes. Later these were mounted into a Tapestry for decorative purposes. Usually you see the mounting rim is of later date but in this case I believe also the rim is 19th century. Silk embroidery was expensive in China in the old times so when a robe was not needed anymore the silk panels were given a second life. Quality of th embroidery is good. There is a market for this type of work. Chinese art market is good. Try to sell it at a auction house with prescription to an international auction platform. You need Chinese people to find it.
