We found this at an estate sale, and the only provenance they were able to give us was that it was an antique game table. We have since learned that it's known as a demilune game table, and from comparing its legs to others, that it is possibly French or Italian? One of its four legs can be released to extend as a support for the second half of the table, which can be folded open, thus making a complete circle or full moon top. (The depth measurement is 18" when it's in half-moon position. When it's open, it's perfectly round, 36" x 36".) The first photos show it in half-moon position, for which its glass top covers it. The next photos show it without the glass top. Another feature is its drawer, which most tables like this seem to lack. No maker's marks or stamps can be found on it, so we would very much appreciate your input to ascertain the age and origin of this piece, and hopefully, what it's worth. Thank you for your kind assistance with this.

Good morning, Mike,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This table was probably made in the early 20th Century, possibly as late as the late 19th Century (either of which technically makes it 100 years old, the definition of an antique) but it is not as old as this form of table was made originally, in the early 19th Century. The tapering reeded leg was made in America, circa 1815-1825 and the demilune form was also popular then. The use of a drawer in the front of the skirt is a feature used in the late 19th / early 20th Century; game tables in the early 19th century would have had a closed frame with a well for playing cards, chips, etc or there would have been a drawer cut into the back of the frame, the fixed rail as opposed to the fly-rail that pivots out to support the top when it's open.
You don't give the height but in my experience, these are typically between 28-30 inches high. If you can send me the height, I'll fill it in.
Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A Centennial Classical style turned and carved mahogany demilune games table
in the American taste, late 19th/early 20th Century
The hinged demilune top supported by a fly-leg, the veneered skirt fitted with a drawer, all on four reeded tapering inverted baluster legs. With a custom glass top for when not in use.
[height]; width 36 inches, depth closed 18 inches, depth open 36 inches
PROVENANCE: acquired at an estate sale
