This was my grandparents dining table in their home either in Germantown or Chestnut Hill, PA. I believe it's over 100 years old and solid Mahogany. It was made in Philadelphia by Karcher & Renn. Karcher being a German name.
Smallest table size: 62" long x 44" wide Height is 30". It has two leaves with scroll work on it and several others.
Hi Deborah
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I wasn't familiar with the firm Karcher & Rehn and an internet search suggests it was an obscure firm or short-lived partnership. They might also be the retailers and not the makers of this table.
From the style and construction, I can tell you that this is comparable to pieces made in the 1920 and 1930s, suggesting a likely date of origin; this seems to track with your family's history of the table.
The market is heavily populated with such tables - of this vintage and otherwise - and when they come to auction, they bring fair-market (akin to wholesale) prices between $600 and $900.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A near antique Colonial Revival style walnut expanding dining table
labeled Karcher & Rehn, Philadelphia, circa 1920-30s
Of rectangular form with rounded ends, raised on tall cabriole legs terminating in ball-and-claw feet.
Height: 30 inches; in closed form, it is 44 inches wide and 62 inches long. With two leaves.
CONDITION: This table appears to be in generally good condition with wear commensurate to age and use.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$600-900*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
