Antique flintlock pistol about 15 in long. I have no other information
unknown
Dear Michael,
Thank you for your second look and your patience.
The presented object appears to be a flintlock system muzzleloading pistol with a total length of 15 inches. The lengthed design dates this piece into the first half of the 18th century. It could be French or more possible German. The metal parts are not clearly hallmarked and there is just the number 43 visible which is perhaps an inventory number of an arsenal or regiment. Under the open spring of the lock, a W is visible, which can not be clearly solved. Regarding the decoration, this pistol was made for military use and not for representative personal use.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 250 to 500 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
I have not been able to find hallmarks other than what is evident in the pictures. There is a "W" on the lock plate within the frizen spring, there are a few other faint inscriptions evident in the pictures.
