Hi Jason,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is a Middle Eastern style knife that was probably made in the 20th Century, with a patina that looks old but has uneven and unrealistic wear (typical of knives faked to look old) with a scabbard or sheath that has Western imagery (eagle near the top of the scabbard and a pointed oval medallion on the center. The writing on the blade looks like random curls, squiggles, and shapes inspired by Arabic letterforms but not conforming to recognizable letters from Arabic, Persian, Ottoman Turkish, or Urdu scripts.
It was not uncommon for such decorative, souvenir knives of this style to be sold in bazaars or gift shops in Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon or Syria; they have a nominal value at auction, usually between $50-75.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
