A vintage Mission Craftsman style copper lantern, Imported by Sarreid, mid- to late-20th Century
16 February 2025
Description

Lantern belonged to my partner's mother-in-law. We believe it's at least 40-50 years old and possibly older. The candle is not original. There is a tag underneath that says "Sarreid, Ltd, 2489, MT-445. See images. Also, there's a mark "V013800". There is a hinged door and handle to open the door. There is glass on three sides (not sure if a pane is missing).

What does this mean?

Hi Francis,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

Sarreid Ltd. is a furniture company renowned for home furnishings and accessories. Established in 1967 by Alex Sarratt and Walter Reid, the company began by sourcing handcrafted pieces from Spain, emphasizing old-world craftsmanship. Over the years, Sarreid expanded its reach, importing unique items from countries such as Italy, Vietnam, Portugal, India, Korea, Mexico, and China. Today, based in Wilson, North Carolina, Sarreid continues to offer a diverse range of furniture and household accessories that blend antique charm with contemporary design.

This Mission/Craftsman style copper lantern was probably not made by Sarreid but retailed by them; it is worth $150-250 at auction. It is likely it was always intended to be open on one side, for ease of lighting or replacing the candles.

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
