My family bought this at a fair more than 30 years ago. The seller said it was late-1800s hunting musket. It is 49in long. The trigger and hammer still work. We have never attempted to fire it.
We know very little. The seller was not a professional and only had the barest information about its origin.
Dear James,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry and I wish you a Happy New Year. Sadly regarding technical problems, the images and messages were not displayed. I apologize for the delay of the appraisal.
The presented object appears to be a percussion lock hunting rifle. The style of the stock and the percussion lock dates this rifle into the second half of the 19th century.
This piece is in very bad condition and there are serious damages visible. Sadly this devalues this rifle nearly and it is going to be very difficult to find a potential buyer for this piece.
An estimation would be between 0 to 40 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
