Dear Aisling,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. The presented object appears to be a pair of ceramic statues with the measurements of 13 inches height. The statues depict two Staffordshire Spaniel dogs and they are not marked to identify the manufacturer. These statues were made in the 20th century in Great Britain.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 80 to 160 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Dear Aisling,
I am sorry that you are not happy with the appraisal. These dogs were produced since the 19th century until nowadays in many different qualities and sizes. Pieces yours sadly mostly sell in the stated estimate range. Older pieces and larger pieces sell more than 200 USD but also based on unforeseeable bidding behavior.
With kind regards,
Georg
I think Your appraisal is in correct. There are many types of Staffordshire dogs but positions and detail are what set them apart from each other. I’d like to see the ones you have found that you are basing this appraisal off of. I’m not upset with the price, i think It’s inaccurate. And my set is one of the larger one at 13” tall.
Dear Aisling,
We work with databases which are not publicly visible so it is complicated to share the results with you. These statues are produced in a high number and sadly really often on the market.
With kind regards,
Georg
An identical pair sold at auction March ‘18 for over $500. I’ve seen some selling for more. Paid for an accurate appraisal and this does not seem to be it.
