Hello M,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Bidjar Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1930-1950. Therefore it is considered as a semi-antique oriental rug. The piece's way of knotting is similar to the Bidjar Rug's Zanjan types. Zanjan is a smaller village that produces distinct rugs in Bidjar province. The piece is centrally decorated with a very large central medallion constructed by three lobes. The piece has 4 columns, 2 on it's each side. Motifs and patterns are all floral with a geometrical construction style due to the low knot density. Zanjan, Bidjar rugs are categorised as villager rugs and therefore has a low knot density with motifs rendered in low clarity. The colour palette is very traditional and include darker tones of blue and red. The piece is definetely a runner rug, which means it was intented for large hallways or corridors. The size also indicate the old age because contemporary pieces are designed more appropriately for modern home and corridor sizes. The knots are asymmetrical Persian knot, usual to Bidjar pieces. The dyes used on the piece is likely natural dyes made of plants and vegetables as well as insects. The piece is very collectible and decorative. The piece is in good condition with signes of use and age.
