Pair of matching antique silk Persian wall rugs with symbolic Pahlavi crown. 22 inches width X 31 inches length
Inherited from grandfather who traded in Baghdad from the 1930s to 1950s. He acquired it during his time in Iraq as part of a larger collection. Was estimated at $10,000 USD during the 1st Gulf war and said to be among the last hand knotted rugs with the Pahlavi crown.

The history of rugs with the Pahlavi crown would need to be researched a bit more extensively, which is outside of the scope and reach of this appraisal, to ascertain how many of these rugs were made at the time, were any sold commercially or were they made in limited number, solely for imperial ownership.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A pair of Persian hand-knotted silk prayer mats or wall rugs
Possibly with Pahlavi imperial provenance, early 20th Century
Each with a mihrab centering the imperial Pahlavi family crown, with birds and flowers, cream selvedges
each approximately 1'10" by 2'7" (22 by 31 inches)
PROVENANCE: acquired in Bagdad by client's grandfather, circa 1930-1950s, thence by inheritance
$1,500-2,500 each or $3,000-5,000 for the pair*
