Dear Pam,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a decorated powder horn made out of a cow horn with the measurements of 5 x 2 inches. It is decorated with an American eagle and other animals, the word "Liberty", and dated 1818.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 250 to 500 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
The bottom cap does not come off. As a matter of fact, there is some damage where someone must have attempted to get the bottom off. The top cap does come off, but there is no way to see the inside from there. I have attached a few extra pictures.
