Antique Rosewood Bench
It is a rosewood bench, with mahogany detailing, with a matching footrest. It is approximately 2 meters long. It was refurbished a few years ago, costing upwards of SGD20,000. Comes with a matching middle table, not pictured.
Inherited from my peranakan grandfather, who bought it in colonial Singapore times (perhaps 1940s-1950s).

This is an antique 19th century Chinese luohan or luohan chuang daybed couch with matching footrest platform in intricately carved rosewood and burled wood panels. A luohan is distinguished by the railings around the 3 sides, which makes this a more formal piece of furniture. Usually these also came with a matching tray for serving food and tea atop the bed. The pierced carved designs feature nature over the seasons. These beds are also referred to as opium beds. If the furniture piece is extremely heavy/dense, then this may be zitan rosewood, which does not float in water because of the density. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables.
