What does this mean?

Dear Elaine,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

The presented object appears to be a sword handle of a replica or modern sword. It was made out of iron and a brass or bronze decoration with a lion protom at the end of the handle. The raw connection between the handguard and the handle itself is another hint that this is a modern replica.
This piece is in bad condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 0 to 10 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.

With kind regards,
Georg
