Victorian walnut bed with inlays. I believe it’s late 1800’s or early 1900’s. The bed’s headboard is 8’1” tall and 4’10” width, the top of the headboard is 8” deep (over hang).
Acquired from: Inherited from an adopted Aunt (very close friend who we called Aunt) in 1990. She inherited it from her mother who said it was a wedding gift. I have the original mattress (or at least it's the mattress that my Aunt’s Mother had), bedspring, and slats for the bed. My Aunt and her family was from South Bend, Indiana.
This is an antique, 19th century, about 1870's, 'High Victorian' era high back bed frame done in walnut and walnut veneers. The bed frame is quite tall, standing 8 feet 1 inch high at the head board. It was made for a stately home with high ceilings during that era. These are sometimes referred to as 'Lincoln' furniture as the height and Victorian era architectural form of the piece is reminiscent of the tall pieces Lincoln had brought in to the White House. The overhang is similar to a partial baldacchino top. The Victorian furniture market is currently slumped. Pieces, even the original period pieces, do not sell for what they used to sell for a few decades ago. The market was further impacted by the Recession. The estimate is for the bed only and is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
