Antique Victorian Carved Walnut Parlor Sofa Loveseat
The sofa loveseat is from approximately 1890-1900 given to us by my husband's great grandmother. It has been re-upholstered with the same color as the original. The walnut (or mahagony) legs are beautifully carved and the top on the sofa is a carved cornice. The seat cushions are made of foam (this was done when the re-uphostery was done in late 1990).
The dimensions are 61"L x 32" W x 34" H.

This is a Rococo Revival carved walnut settee or loveseat rather than Victorian, which would be more elaborately carved. The shaped arms and front seat rail were considered innovative in the late 19th Century and this would have been sold as part of a larger set, with a sofa large enough to seat three people, side chairs, armchairs and chairs low to the ground that would have been called "slipper chairs" at the time because they allowed people to easily put on/take off shoes.
The pink velvet upholstery on this does not appear to be original though it was probably replaced in the mid 20th Century. It would be interesting - though doesn't really influence the value - to know if this still has the coiled springs, horsehair and webbing it would have had originally.
This type of seating furniture is not very fashionable on the market currently, and settees of similar size and form that have come to auction recently have sold for rather modest prices, in the range of $200-300.
