Imprinted inside “copy of Antorun Stradivarius made in Germany “ Belonged to Great Grandfather in late 1800’s
24x8 inches
Inherited from my Great Grandfather born in 1871
Hi Sharon,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Violin (and viola, cello etc) labels are notoriously unreliable (see this link for a good explanation: https://stringsmagazine.com/an-insiders-guide-to-violin-labels/). However, since I can read that this label says it is a German copy of an Antonio Stradivarius, that's a good reason to think this is NOT an original.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage German Antonio Stradivarius violin
late 19th Century
With ebony tuning pegs, fingerboard, frog and chin rest, the front of spruce, the back of maple. With old and possibly original hard case
24 inches long overall
CONDITION: appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: inherited
$400-600*

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.
It's great, Sharon, thank you so much. You're all set here.
The camera will not fit inside the violin. We took a video and screen shots as best we could of the imprinted stamp.
Hopefully this will help
