The receipt on back of the painting states it was ordered at his 3 West 33rd Street, Cor. Nicolette Ave Minneapolis, Minn on November 13th, 1929. size is 16" x 20" watercolor price was $11.00. Frame is a little beat up but the painting looks good. The painting has a large red barn, windmill, house and grazing cattle.
I picked this up at a Antique store in Montana about 10 years ago and stuck it in a closet. Upon taking a closer look at the attached receipt and signature in 2 places by Arne I thought what the heck maybe it has some value and it worth getting the painting cleaned up along with the frame.
You have a framed work by the Norwegian-American artist, Arne Berger (1872 - 1951) who was active in Minnesota. He is known for altar paintings, landscapes and portraits; yours being a farm landscape. The images attached here are only opening to thumbnail size. It is typical for these veneered frames to chip. The images do show water damage to the artwork on the back side and rippling and toning on the front. Generally, this type of damage would not be easily remedied with restoration and would likely be cost prohibitive. The estimate is based on comparables and factors in the condition with the presumption that this is an original work and not a print of a work.
