Hi Shirley,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Etched glass was a favored motif in the Art Deco movement for several interrelated aesthetic and cultural reasons. The period celebrated glamour, sophistication, and modernity. and etched glass—often frosted or intricately patterned—offered a luxurious look while embracing the sleek, clean lines that defined the movement. Its subtle texture and ability to diffuse light created a refined, opulent ambiance ideal for upscale interiors, department stores, theaters, and luxury residences. Additionally, etched glass became more accessible due to improvements in glass production and etching techniques (like acid-etching and sandblasting). These innovations allowed for more detailed, repeatable designs that matched Art Deco's love for geometric forms and symmetry.
While the decorative motifs in your etched glass panel are stylized, they are not quite as angular or geometric as one usually sees in the period, suggesting to me this is a reproduction and done in the 1970s or 80s rather than in the 1930s or 40s.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

We could not find a makers mark. It is not a mirror but is etched in what we think is black glass. It is extremely heavy.
We were told it came out of building in NEw York.
Thank you for your assistance.
