This is a set of artist's silver jewelry by the Modernist, Art Smith, (1917–1982) who was active in New York City. A Cooper Union student, his work is described as biomorphic, primitive and surreal. He was born in Cuba and is one of the few Afro-Caribbean artists recognized in the Modernist Art movement. His pieces were worn by the movers and shakers of the avant-garde and featured in high end fashion magazines. The estimate for the set is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
