Inheritance
Dear James,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay with the apprisal.
The presented object appears to be two Japanese woodblock prints called ukiyo-e in a medium size. One print depicting a woman watching the cherry blossom and belong to a series showing the beauties of Japan by the Japanese artist Keisai Eisen (1781-1848).
The second print depicts three women talking to each other and this print is titled "Three women gossiping". It was made by the the Japanese artist Torii Kiyonaga (1742-1815). He mainly depicted the social life in group scenes. Both prints were probably made in the first half of the 19th century.
This piece is in bad to medium condition and there is a coloring of the paper, a loss of colors, a loss of material, and stains visible in the images provided. this loss of material devalues the print by Eisen.
Fair market estimation for the Kiyonaga print would be between 30 to 80 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
