Asian antique table
This Chinese antique table was acquired about 60 years ago in Hawaii, most likely from Anseth's, a reputable antique dealer in Asian furniture in Hawaii at that time. This Ming-inspired low table uses a lacquered dark hardwood. It most likely dates from the Xing dynasty in the late 19th century. This low table hints at tradition in the flow from apron to legs, decorated with a finely beaded edge ending in carved scroll feet. It's in excellent condition with no normal wear and tear.

You are correct in the age of this table, which has all the elements of Classical Chinese furniture. If it were made of Huanghuali, it would be worth more (probably $1,000-1,500); the use of elm keeps its value low in the current market.

The square top with broad mitred border, tongue-and-groove frame, raised on square "horse hocked" short legs with square scrolled feet. Unmarked.
