This is a ceramic statue of a mother breastfeeding her infant. It is from Asia (Japan?), that's all that I know about her. I bought her on eBay.
She is approximately 9 1/2 inches long, and weights nearly 1pound 13ounces
I don't recall, when I was buying breastfeeding art, more than 20 years ago, it often came from eBay, and I long ago lost the details.
Dear Anne,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay with the appraisal.
The presented object appears to be a porcelain figurine with unknown measurements. The figurine depicts a woman breastfeeding a baby. Both are dressed in Chinese costumes but this figurine was made in Japan in the first half of the 20th century. Such pieces were made for export to the Western world.
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 70 to 150 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
